But got the a frame off eventually an been to get some new tools half inch nuckle joint 2 quid ball joint seperator 2 quid and a stubby 30mm socket guess what 2 quid oh an pack of hack saw blades 2 pound 50 should do the trick for puttin it back together but not with the hack saw blades though.
Can anyone clarify whether the a frame on my defender 90 can be safely removed for replacement of the ball joint and bushes without the need to lift jack the rear wheels off the ground.
If the ball joint is the only suspect undo the retainer plate bolts remove the big nut if you can then seperate the aframe at the diff end by removing the bolts.
There are some excellent online walk through guides out there however some specify jacking at the chassis rails then raising the axle some specify jacking.
Press or hammer out the ball joint then replace.
Just looking for some tips on how i remove the rear a frame ball joint safely at home so i can give it to a mate who will put the new ball joint in as i don t have a press at home then when that s don.
If the aframe bushes are suspect its the same deal but pull the bolts that mount it and press out the bushes.
