In my last build i made a really large wood picture frame with splines and i thought i d share how i made a super simple jig to clamp and align the corners during the glue up process watch the 2 minute video or read on.
Diy picture frame clamp.
Lay out three layers of the hardboard.
When complete the glass picture and backing will be flush with the outer frame.
Lay the inner frame on top this to raise the inner frame up and create the offset that will be needed when the outer.
Align the four outer trim pieces you previously cut.
Start with hardwood cut to size then drill a 3 16 inch hole to fit 10 bolts.
Simple corner clamp jig.
This diy clamping method from john heisz can be modified to fit frames of all sizes and is inexpensive to make.
I have come across many different ways to hold the mitred corners in place either using strap clamps like i did with my photo frame or using fancy.
This clamping device will help you clamp your picture frames together for gluing.
Over the years i have made hundreds of picture frames whether for our diy workshops for my own home or for the www home dzine co za website.
